“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42).
As Christians, we must live every day as though Christ may return at any moment. You want to be blameless when He comes, which means whatever you know you ought to be doing as a Christian, do it continually, always anticipating His return.
“But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:43–44).
He will come as a thief in the night, but nobody knows when—neither the day nor the hour. Some have suggested that only the day and hour are unknown, but the times and seasons can be known. However, the Bible tells us that even the times and seasons are not for us to know (Acts 1:6–7).
While it’s wise to keep watching for the signs of His coming, what is even more important is to be prepared every moment, so that whenever He comes, we are not caught unaware.
“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure” (1 John 3:2–3).
So keep staying pure and walking in holiness, for without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
